- Sunglasses and sunscreen (yes, even on cloudy days)
- Fully charged phone or camera — you’ll want to capture the unique moments
- Any personal medication (e.g., motion sickness or sea bands)
- A water bottle to stay hydrated
- Optional: Your own fishing equipment or a small cooler if you plan to keep your catch

Targeted Fish
Yellowfin Tuna
A prized catch in the Azores, known for its pinkish-red flesh and long yellow fins. Often served grilled or fresh, it's abundant in summer months and targeted by both commercial and sport fishers.
Albacore Tuna
Smaller than Yellowfin, with lighter, more delicate meat. Also found in Azorean waters, especially in spring and early summer, it's widely used for canning and light fish dishes.
Squid
Common around São Miguel’s coastal areas, squid is a staple in local dishes like grilled squid or seafood stews. Known for its tender texture and mild flavor.
Dolphin (Mahi Mahi)
Also called Dorado, this colorful fish is found in warmer surface waters. It has firm, white meat with a slightly sweet taste—perfect for grilling or pan-searing.
Wahoo
A sleek, fast swimmer with mild, white flesh and a clean taste. Wahoo is sought after for sport fishing and is typically enjoyed grilled or baked.
Shortbill Spearfish
A rarer catch in the Azores, this deep-sea predator has a short bill and lean meat. Less commonly seen, but appreciated when caught for its game-fishing challenge.
Longbill Spearfish
Found in deeper oceanic waters, this billfish is known for its longer snout and agile movements. Its meat is firm and light, though it's a rare find on menus.
